Auckland City Councils' Building Leaks!

10-Jun-2010 I was lodging a Building Consent for a client on Monday last week (31 May 2010) and knock me down with a feather! - The council have a Leaky Building! There were 3 large commercial cherry pickers spaced evenly around the building and from where I parked my car, I could see clearly, a contractor about 15m high above the ground on the eastern side, with a caulking gun in his hand filling cracks in the monolithic cladding.

As I got closer I could see that it was a cladding by one of those companies that likes to mix wood fibre with cement to make a panel, which has led the leaky home debate ever since its inception (come on - do I really have to name the product?).

There was a points-man on duty as the cherry picker I could see from the car-park was concealed from the traffic flow so he was there to slow people down. I said, with a grin "don't tell me Auckland City Council has a Leaky Building!?". The chap laughed and nodded without saying a word.

I went upstairs to the front desk where all the customers go and I asked one of the people there the same question about the leaky building. I heard some sniggers from another chap, and they all know about it as they have been briefed about the machines blocking the access to the staff car-park.

Am I the only one who can see the irony here?
