Leaky Buildings - Building Product Manufacturers
While traditional building materials, like Brick Veneer and Bevel back weatherboards are still being widely used, there is an enormous amount of alternative material available, and a lot of it imported, and possibly intended for another country with different climatic conditions. For some unusual reason, monolithic claddings have become popular, in the form of sheet materials, usually wood fibre cement, polystyrene with a plastered top coat, and solid plaster over a wood fibre cement substrate.
There are now many alternative brands in the market place, all promoted through Architectural offices. A product sales representative will often indicate that there may need to be a slight change, from standard construction, to suit the product they are promoting. Often, if the project has been set up to suit one particular cladding product, and there is a change somewhere during construction, can sometimes result in what is now an inappropriate detail, and not suitable for the product intended on being used. If the framing has already been erected, it is often too late to make such a serious change.
Some timber merchants and home handymen type stores deal with the general public on a daily basis. Often these people are renovating their own house. They approach the staff, looking for advice, only to get a product recommendation based on a possible Sales Bonus for a certain range of materials on promotion. "Paint" is a typical example. The public are not aware that technical advice and sales advice are completely different.
