Architectural Design, always considered a pleasurable experience for the designer, is usually a very emotional experience for the client, testing patience and causing stress and tension. This is understandable as it is probably the largest investment people will ever make in their lifetime .........a New Home.
Scott Simôn, SDS Design principal, makes it a first priority to alleviate any stresses, ensuring a consultative design process and carefully guiding your project through the processes of gaining Building and Resource Consents. These steps can be the most gruelling of any building project, but with a thorough knowledge of the Resource Management and Building Compliance codes, SDS
can accelerate application, resolve non-compliance issues and gain relevant approvals, in a minimal timeframe.
A critical factor is always The Budget. You will not meet Scott without the big question being asked early in the discussion,as this is the most crucial piece of information, needed prior to any design taking place. Because the budget is pivotal in the success of the project, it is also extremely important that the designer is familiar with current building costs.
Without familiarity to current building cost, a project has the potential to "fall over" or "never get off the ground". We have seen many tears over the years shed by new clients who have previously spent large sums of money with an "Architect" for Plans that do not correlate to the given budget. Only after a trip to a Builder or a Quantity Surveyor, is this revealed. It can be a devastating experience. Your heart strings and your wallet will be tugged in different directions, then after a compromise you receive the plans with a new home you've always dreamed of, but you may find out that after spending all that money, you can't afford to build it!
SDS Design Consultants offer not only design, but have been managing projects for around eight years now, building on Scott's previous Practice where Commercial Project Management was a normal part of his duties, and making absolutely sure that the design intent, timeframe and budget are all met.
Scott Simôn is very passionate about Architecture, with a Structural balance. We say "balance" because Scott is a "Libra". Scott can pick something out of level by eyesight, maybe 3mm in 20m (not kidding!). He was also that kid in the sandpit who built huge "Sandcastles" with tunnels at every beach excursion! He then "graduated" to Lego and "meccano" (remember that?!), building bridges, cranes, trucks, a Builder/Planner/Architect in the making right there on the lounge floor! At Epsom Normal Primary, Scott was gaining respect for his drawing ability from his friends and teachers - and he wasn't even ten years old. Scott went on to Auckland Normal Intermediate where his Woodwork and Metalwork skills began and enhanced his ability to work with timber and steel together. Penrose High School was his next step - Technical Drawing! (what!- a subject for an hour a day where you have to draw - you're kidding, this must be Heaven!). Scott was in his element. He couldn't believe his luck, it made school and life a pleasurable experience being "allowed" to draw - every day! It didn't take long for Scotts school friends to realise why this kid with a fanatical passion for drawing was always 1st or 2nd in school and examinations. To Scott, it wasn't work - it was advanced play.
We believe that if you love what you do - you will do it well. When meeting Scott for the first time, you will realise very quickly that he is passionate about his vocation, and while his sense of humor will probably show through within the first minute, you will realise that he is very serious about his project undertakings and very disciplined. Scott enjoys telling people that he makes clients "for life" - and he does. SDS Design Consultants is a referral business - we are not in the phone book or yellow pages.
"Passion" is the driving force behind anything good in this world worth protecting.
Our work comes from satisfied clients and loyal Builder/Developers. We are very proud of it and we look forward to working with you on your project.
